Job summary

Qualifications

  • RN or LPN in Utah in good standing with the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL).
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience, with at least 1 year in long-term care or elder care.
  • Complete UNAR approved "Train the Trainer" program or willingness to complete immediately after selection.
  • Meet all requirements for UNAR CNA instructor approval and obtain approval within 1 month of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on instruction of clinical skills for Nursing Assistant as per NANN or UNAR standards.
  • Deliver didactic instruction in scheduled classes and/or hybrid formats.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence across all nursing assistant care aspects.
  • Follow established curriculum and clinical assessments.
  • Supervise small groups of nursing assistant students (up to 12) with 1:1 supervision in clinical settings.
  • Monitor and document student attendance and progress.
  • Maintain professional relationships with faculty and staff; protect patient and student confidentiality.
  • Advise students on program requirements and progression; provide feedback.
  • Contribute industry perspective to update curriculum and stay current through workshops.

Job description

Salt Lake Community College seeks adjunct faculty who can adapt to a variety of teaching situations and who have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes professionalism and multicultural understanding.

The faculty will work in a multi-modal program serving students in scheduled classes, open lab instruction, and off-site clinical rotations. This will include variable shifts in a Monday through Saturday work week between the hours of 6am to 11pm. The instructor will provide instruction in the training courses offered through the Certified Nurse Assistant department using a variety of teaching methods and media to meet different learning styles to prepare students for certification and employment in healthcare settings.

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

1) In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.

2) Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within in 30 days of hire.

  1. Hands-on instruction of clinical skills related to the role of Nursing Assistant as outlined by NAPP and UNAR.
  2. Didactic instruction in scheduled classes and/or hybrid learning environments.
  3. Demonstrate clinical competence in all aspects of nursing assistant care.
  4. Follow established curriculum and clinical assessments.
  5. Supervises small groups of no more than 12 nursing assistant students who are pared 1:1 with facility CNA's in a clinical setting.
  6. Monitor, evaluate & document student attendance and progress.
  7. Project a positive, helpful attitude when students request or require help.
  8. Maintain a positive professional working relationship with other program faculty and division staff.
  9. Preserve patient and student confidentiality.
  10. Advise students on the program requirements and their progress through the courses. Assess student's abilities and provide appropriate documentation and feedback.
  11. Provide an industry viewpoint to the training program so that students will be prepared to enter the work force. Keep current on technology and other industry advances by attending workshops and conferences and upgrade curriculum changes as needed.

  • Physical Requirements: varied sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting of related supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Be able to perform patient transfers including safe use of transfer assistance devices such as Hoyer lift.

All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on-line only courses.

You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time.

You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

  1. Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Utah, in good standing with the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL)
  2. Have a minimum of 2 years clinical experience, with no less than 1 year in LTC facility OR caring for the elderly or chronically ill of any age.
  3. Applicant must have completed, or be willing to complete immediately upon selection, the UNAR approved "Train the Trainer" program.
  4. Applicant must meet all requirements for UNAR CNA instructor approval and be approved or receive approval within 1 month of hire.
  1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
  2. Experience teaching at a post-secondary level.
  3. Experience supervising lab skills and clinical rotations.
