Job summary

Rock Valley College seeks an Adjunct Nursing Faculty member to provide high-quality classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical instruction in the Nursing Program. In alignment with course objectives and program policies, you will support student success, maintain required records, and collaborate with program leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Teach nursing courses in classroom, lab, simulations or clinical settings.
  • Meet classes at assigned times and prepare lectures, labs, and assessments.
  • Select texts and teaching materials aligned with course objectives and outcomes.
  • Foster inclusive classroom environment and be accessible to students.
  • Evaluate student performance using LMS-based grading and feedback.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and department staff.

Job Summary

Adjunct Nursing Faculty are responsible for providing high-quality classroom, laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical instruction within the Nursing Program in accordance with established course objectives, program policies, curriculum standards, and College requirements. Adjunct faculty assess student learning and clinical performance, support student success, maintain required instructional and student records, and collaborate with the Director of Nursing, Nursing Department Chair, and other members of the Nursing Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Additional related duties may be assigned.

  • Teaching:
    • Teach assigned nursing courses in the classroom, laboratory, simulations, and/or clinical setting
    • Meet classes at assigned times.
  • Course Preparation:
    • Select appropriate texts and teaching materials.
    • Prepare and deliver lectures, laboratory exercises, assignments, and assessments that align with course objectives and learning outcomes.
    • Keep informed on the latest research and journal articles.
  • Student Engagement:
    • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that encourages active participation and engagement.
    • Provide availability for student interaction outside of class (1 hour weekly minimum per 3 credit hours)
  • Assessment and Feedback:
    • Evaluate student performance through a variety of assessment methods. Provide constructive feedback to support student improvement.
    • Utilize Rock Valley College's chosen Learning Management System (LMS) for all grading, assignments, communication, and student records.
    • Prepare course/class reports as required.
    • Follow established course plans, clinical expectations, evaluation processes, and Nursing Program policies to promote consistency among course sections and instructors.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and the Director of Nursing Program to contribute to the department's initiatives and activities.
  • Attend college meetings when available (faculty, division, in-service training, etc.).
  • Compliance:
    • Adhere to college policies, procedures, and academic standards.
    • Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and any policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College.
    • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance and fulfill responsibilities associated with the assigned teaching load.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Current, unencumbered license as a Registered nurse in the state of Illinois.
  • A minimum of two years of current or recent clinical nursing practice experience appropriate to the assigned teaching area.
  • Clinical competence and professional experience appropriate to the course or clinical specialty being taught.
  • Ability to meet clinical agency requirements applicable to the assigned teaching responsibilities.
  • Commitment to the community college mission.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical settings.
  • Previous teaching experience in nursing education preferred.
  • Experience with student assessment and clinical evaluation.
  • Familiarity with ACEN accreditation standards and processes.
  • Experience with learning management systems and instructional technology.
