Job Summary

Adjuncts are hired to teach on a semester basis. Provides academic instruction and student academic support for assigned classes; performs tasks designed to ensure the quality and consistency of academic instruction; develops instructional methods for their assigned course(s) which pertain to the course(s) learning outcomes and course catalog description; adheres to college policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering student-centered instruction, developing accessible syllabi, designing assignments that promote critical academic skills, maintaining accurate records, and providing timely feedback. Additional responsibilities include supporting student learning, ensuring instructional quality and consistency, fostering an inclusive and engaging classroom environment, integrating active learning and technology, and staying current with best practices in teaching.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics or a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education with a Master’s degreein Education or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution (see course-specific qualifications below).
  • Willingness to teach developmental math courses
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (e.g., D2L Brightspace, Canvas, or Blackboard).
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching and supporting student success.
Licensing Requirements
  • Valid Driver's License
  • PA ACT-15

Hiring Range

No less than $1,442 per credit hour/work load rate

Job Specific Task List
  • Participate in the faculty orientation (initial assignments only) and all required department meetings and trainings. - (Essential)
  • Prepare appropriate course materials and prescribed assessments tied to the course learning outcomes in accordance with Course Form 335 and department practice. - (Essential)
  • Submit syllabi to the department chair/designee for review and approval by the stated deadline. Submit approved syllabi to the designated support personnel by the stated deadline. - (Essential)
  • Report to all scheduled classes and all exams on time and maintain class during the entire assigned time. - (Essential)
  • Enter early alert monitoring, confirmation of attendance, and recording of student midterm and final grades within established deadlines. - (Essential)
  • Maintain office hours equal to one hour per week per each three (3) credit course (CRN) assigned. Respond to student questions and concerns in a timely manner. - (Essential)
  • Participate in the assessment process to improve student learning. This includes submitting samples or artifacts for assessment when requested and may also include participating in the scoring, review and discussion of those artifacts. - (Essential)
  • Access HACC email account(s) and read email regularly; respond to email and telephone calls within 2 business days. - (Essential)
  • Participate in the evaluation process consistent with the evaluation of adjunct faculty policy and class observation procedure. - (Essential)
  • Comply with attendance reporting and recording requirements consistent with Attendance Reporting and Recording, including submission of an Adjunct Employee' s Record of Leave form. - (Essential)
  • Adhere to all applicable policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Faculty Duties, compliance with the ADA/Section 504 accommodation requests, Title IX, Harassment, Bullying and Code of Ethical Conduct. - (Essential)
  • Participate and remain active in class during the entire length of the assigned term. - (Essential)
