Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a pool of adjunct instructors in the Supply Chain Management & Analytics department (School of Business) to teach ongoing courses across Operations Management, Global Supply Chain Management, Business Statistics, Analytics, Logistics, Procurement, and Quality Management.

In-person courses are prioritized at Snead Hall in Richmond, with some online and hybrid modalities.

Job description

The Supply Chain and Analytics (SCMA) department in the School ofBusiness at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applicants fora pool of adjunct instructors. This pool will be used to fillteaching needs on an ongoing basis, and qualified applicants willbe contacted for interviews as needs arise.

The department offers graduate and undergraduate courses inOperations Management, Global Supply Chain Management, BusinessStatistics, Analytics, Logistics, Procurement, and QualityManagement, and other related topics. Courses are offered in avariety of modalities (in-person, online, and hybrid), with aparticular need for instructors to teach in-person courses at VCU'sSchool of Business (Snead Hall, Richmond VA). Duties & Responsibilities:

• Meet all designated course instruction guidelines and contacthour requirements.
• Respond to student inquiries, grade assignments, and providefeedback in a timely manner.
• Hold office hours or individual appointments for students.
• Submit midterm and final grades prior to universitydeadlines.
• Work with other departmental faculty to ensure course alignmentwith current and past offerings.
• Teaching methods will vary by course and instructor, buttypically include some combination of lectures, hands-ondemonstrations, data analysis problems, case studies, exams, and/orstudent presentations.
• Maintain a professional learning environment that fostersstudent success.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in business, statistics, supply chainmanagement, operations management, operations research, or anotherrelated field from an accredited institution or equivalentcombination of education and experience.
• Proficiency with common office applications (e.g., MicrosoftWord, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to utilize online learning management systems(specifically, Canvas) for content delivery.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environmentof respect, professionalism and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds andexperiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member atVCU.
• Availability and commitment to teach at the scheduled meetingtimes and in the designated instructional modalities for theassigned course(s).
• Ability to work independently and meet instructionaldeadlines.
• Compliant with Virginia regulations governing adjunct facultyworkload, which currently limit individuals to a maximum of (a) 9credit hours per fall semester, (b) 9 credit hours per springsemester, and (c) 6 credit hours per summer semester, across allVirginia institutions of higher education and inclusive of thecredit hours associated with this appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Terminal degree (PhD, DBA, etc.) in business, statistics,supply chain management, operations management, operationsresearch, or another related field.
• Prior experience in teaching course topics and using modalitiesrelevant to the assigned course(s).
• Experience developing or revising course materials, includingcases, projects, or simulations.
• Familiarity with textbooks and instructional materials commonlyused for comparable courses or currently being used by thedepartment.
• Ability to integrate Artificial Intelligence tools (e.g.,Microsoft Copilot) into course materials and assignments.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations,teaching awards, etc.).
• Current or previous industry experience in a field related tothe course(s) being taught.
• Knowledge of one or more programs and programming languagesused for statistical analysis (e.g., Stata, R, Python, etc.) oroperations management (e.g., Arena, SimQuick, SCM Globe, etc.),depending on courses being taught.
