Job summary

Volunteer State Community College seeks an Adjunct Instructor in Sociology to deliver quality instruction using integrative technologies. Courses may be on ground, online, hybrid or web-enhanced, including evening or distance-based formats.

Qualifications require a Master’s in Sociology (or 18 graduate hours) and collegiate teaching experience is preferred. Applicants may be asked to complete transcripts and background checks during the process.

  • Collegiate level teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of instructional delivery modes and Microsoft Office proficiency.

Job description

Title: Adjunct Instructor- Sociology (Pool)
Institution:Volunteer State Community College
Job Summary:

This position is responsible for delivering quality instruction using integrative technologies.

Job Duties:

Teach courses via on ground, online, hybrid or web-enhanced modalities as assigned. Teach evening, weekend, off-campus, dual enrollment and distance-based courses as required. Submit class syllabus or update department syllabus at least 2 weeks prior to the first day of class or within seven days of the execution of contract. Regularly check your VSCC email and your departmental mailbox. Respond to emails/messages within 48 hours except on the weekend. Submit final grades for each semester by the deadline established by the Registrar. Complete required College trainings. Complete all required reports such as attendance, Early Alerts, progress reports, grade submissions and administer and return surveys by the required deadlines. Advise the Department Chair at the earliest possibility if you are unable to teach a class. Attend meetings as requested by the Department Chair and/or Dean. Comply with all of the College’s and TBR’s policies and guidelines. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Sociology from an accredited institution or a Master’s degree plus 18 graduate hours in Sociology from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

Collegiate level teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Pay Rate: $650 - $775 per credit hour
