Specific Responsibilities

  • Instruct introductory- or mid-level courses in Spanish and Latin American culture and literature;
  • Plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus, goals, and objectives;
  • Design, administer, and grade essays, examinations, and applicable projects to accurately assess achievement of course objectives as identified in the syllabus;
  • Provide clear documentation of student progress through regular and frequent feedback, academic warnings, and midterm progress reports as necessary;
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment conducive to culture and language learning, which actively engages students;
  • Contribute to program and General Education assessment of student learning outcomes based on signature assignments in courses;
  • Maintain regular office and language lab hours to meet one-on-one with students;
  • Assist with extracurricular cultural programs as needed to complement classroom learning;
  • Work with the program faculty to ensure instructional quality and program quality;
  • Adhere to College policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Spanish Language/Literature or a relevant field is required; doctorate preferred;
  • Native or near-native fluency and advanced level of proficiency (C1 or higher) in Spanish and English;
  • Broad knowledge of worldwide Hispanic cultures and Spanish as a Global Language;
  • Demonstrated excellence in college-level language teaching;
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom;
  • Demonstrated excellence teaching language online using Moodle or a similar Learning Management System.
