Job description

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking individuals with expertise in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, or medical terminology to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by teaching in-person laboratory experiences and online medical terminology. These areas support both the biology department and the Leighton School of Nursing through their pre-nursing science curriculum. Successful candidates will foster student learning through innovative pedagogy and inclusive practices. This position is available for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 academic semesters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Actively engage with Marian University's Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and supporting institutional policies.
  2. Teach laboratory courses or online classes per semester, as arranged with the Chair of Biology.
  3. Collaborate with campus resources such as the Center for Academic Success and Engagement, Counseling Center, Campus Security, Dining Services, Student Activities, Athletics, Student Health Center, and Campus Ministry to support students and connect them to resources.
  4. Demonstrate cultural competence in race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, religion, and other diversity areas.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Biology or a related field (Masters or Ph.D. preferred).
  • Enthusiasm for experiential undergraduate education.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to support student success.
