Position Details

  • Reports to: Department Chair
  • Placement: Faculty Hiring Rate Per Contact Hour during Fall 2025 to Summer 2026
Compensation
  • $1106.00 per contact hour for candidates holding a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • $1161.00 per contact hour for candidates holding a Ph.D., Ed.D., or J.D.
Position Summary

Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract. Course assignments may be held in late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. The instructor must adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive, respectful and inclusive attitude toward students and colleagues.

Essential Job Duties and Key Responsibilities
  • Possess and maintain a thorough knowledge of the subject matter necessary to the assigned course load and keep informed of current trends in the medical assisting field and health care.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
  • Teach classes during non‑traditional times (evenings and weekends) and at clinical and other campus sites as required.
  • Meet all contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.
  • Participate in appropriate departmental meetings.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program, or a related field recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or an otherwise recognized training entity, holding at least an associate degree.
  • Three (3) years of occupational experience in Medical Assisting or a related field.
  • At least one (1) year of full‑time experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Current certification or other credential from AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence and emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect, inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well‑being, innovation and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Experience at the community college level.
  • Experience teaching online and/or using course management programs.
  • Experience with traditional and non‑traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.
