Job Description

Wentworth Institute of Technology division of Workforce Development and Professional Education invites applications for part-time evening instructors to teach the Journeyman Electrician license program. The instructor will lead in-person courses, taught two evenings per week, from 5:00–10:00 p.m. over 15 weeks.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver lesson plans and course content on electrical installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Provide hands‑on instruction in electrical theory, safety, and code compliance.
  • Assist in developing and administering assessments and exams to evaluate student progress and achievement.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and staff to keep curriculum up‑to‑date and aligned with industry standards.
  • Provide academic advising and support to students to help them achieve their educational and career goals.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date student attendance records.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current with industry trends and standards.
  • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment.
Required Qualifications & Certification
  • Journeyman Electrical License in the State of Massachusetts.
  • Associate’s, vocational, or technical school degree.
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in the electrical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical theory, safety, and code compliance.
  • Ability to teach and communicate complex concepts effectively to students with diverse learning styles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical technology or a related field.
  • Prior teaching or instructional experience in a related field.
About the Program

Wentworth offers an accelerated four‑semester journeyman electrician program to prepare individuals to become licensed Journeyman Electrician in Massachusetts. Students spend 150 hours in the classroom and earn 15 CEUs per course. Courses are offered in‑person on the Boston campus during fall and spring semesters.

  • Journeyman Electrician 1: Massachusetts regulations, materials, and basic electrical concepts.
  • Journeyman Electrician 2: Advanced reactance, impedance, power factors, and three‑phase circuits.
  • Journeyman Electrician 3: Code calculations, motor and service calculations, and transformer use.
  • Journeyman Electrician 4: Electrical device characteristics, motors, generators, lighting, diagrams, and system operation.
Compensation and Benefits

Adjunct faculty compensation varies based on instructional mode and course credits. The minimum adjunct rate is $1,365 per credit. Wentworth is committed to fair, transparent, and legally compliant compensation practices.
