Department Summary

The division of Instrumental Studies offers Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts performance degrees with specialization in violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, harp, guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, and multiple woodwinds. Current and former students have won prizes in major instrumental competitions of every genre, and are appointed to professional positions in orchestras, wind symphonies, and universities/conservatories spanning the world.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The Department of Instrumental Studies seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Instructor pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for the Fall 2026, Spring 2027 and Summer 2027 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs.

The anticipated need is for adjunct instructors to teach applied performance lessons and/or ensemble performance in the areas of strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, early music, and instrument repair. All instruction will take place on the UNT Denton campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Terminal degree in music or closely related field. Professional experience may be accepted in place of an earned degree. Prior college level teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in teaching instrumental performance with reference to the standards of performance of the UNT Instrumental Studies program.
