Job description

Overview

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that promote student success at Fox Valley Technical College.

Responsibilities
  • Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
  • Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning, and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  • Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
  • Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
  • Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
  • Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
  • Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Journeyman Electrician required; Master Electrician licensure preferred.
  • Minimum of at least 6,000 hours (3 years) in the field within the last five years (Journey-Level industrial, commercial, and/or construction electrician) related to the program being taught.
  • Teaching or training experience desirable.
  • Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum and customized training.
  • Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of, and throughout employment as an instructor.
  • Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job-specific licensing standards.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Verifiable apprenticeship completion and current Journeyworker electrician card required.
  • Master Electrician Certification preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License and subject to FVTC's Motor Vehicle Records Check.
  • Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
  • Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
  • Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
Physical Requirements

Sitting: Requires some periods of sitting while performing tasks and utilizing computer systems. Mobility: Frequent mobility necessary for attending meetings, office tours, or events. Lifting and Carrying: Occasional or continuous lifting and carrying of light to moderate items (up to 50lb). Climbing: Capability to climb stairs or ladders if needed. Fine Motor Skills: Precise hand movements required for activities such as writing on a whiteboard or using instructional technology. Repetitive Motions: Capability to perform repetitive motions such as typing. Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills essential. Travel: Instructor position may require off‑site teaching, fieldwork, or travel for professional development.

Work Environment

Work predominantly in a classroom; may include virtual or hybrid teaching. Work must be completed in person, occasionally in virtual or hybrid environment, depending on college needs.

Additional Information

Hourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour. Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.
