Job summary

Pellissippi State Community College seeks an Adjunct Instructor in Animal Science to provide quality instruction for student learning and to maintain a positive classroom and laboratory environment on campus. The major emphasis is teaching and evaluating students in classrooms and labs.

The position is on-site, with possible online course options, but not a remote posting. It is hired on an as-needed, term-by-term basis and may involve fall, spring, and summer assignments.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college/university with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the Animal Science teaching field.
  • Experience in livestock judging preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach classes as assigned and per course descriptions and syllabi.
  • Supervise the study and learning activities of students.
  • Request equipment, supplies, textbooks, and instructional aids through the department head or lead teacher.
  • Evaluate the academic progress of students.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of services, regulations, and procedures per Adjunct Faculty Handbook.
  • Submit course grades and perform other administrative duties as required.
  • Schedule two office hours; provide a written plan if office hours cannot be scheduled during extenuating circumstances.

Position Summary: To provide quality instruction for student learning and to maintain a positive learning environment in the classroom. The major emphasis will be placed on teaching and evaluating students in the classroom and laboratories.

Department: School of Sciences and Nursing

On-Site Requirement: Faculty should be able to teach courses on campus and attend required meetings. Online courses may be a possibility, but this is not a remote position

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. 1. Planning and teaching classes as assigned and as outlined in the course descriptions and course syllabi.
  2. 2. Supervising the study and learning activities of students assigned.
  3. 3. Submitting requests through the department head, program coordinator, or lead teacher for equipment, supplies, textbooks, and other instructional aids.
  4. 4. Evaluating the academic progress of students.
  5. 5. Demonstrating knowledge of services, regulations, and procedures as defined in the Adjunct Faculty Handbook.
  6. 6. Submitting course grades and performing other administrative duties as required.
  7. 7. Scheduling two office hours. For extenuating circumstances in which office hours cannot be scheduled, the adjunct faculty member must submit a written plan to the Dean describing how students can access the instructor. Office hours are not paid during the summer session.

Availability/Closing Date: This posting is not a guarantee of an open position. Applications for adjunct faculty positions are accepted continuously and reviewed by the department if openings are available. Adjuncts are hired on an as‑needed basis.

Future teaching assignments are on a term‑by‑term basis, which may include fall, spring, and summer.
