Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: At the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, Academic Affairs is committed to excellence in all school academic activities, ensuring courses meet changing needs of local and global communities and uphold integrity and rigor. The School seeks individuals dedicated to creative and innovative approaches to education; Academic Affairs facilitates their professional growth.

Position Summary: The Gillings School of Global Public Health offers Master of Public Health (MPH) concentrations under the schoolwide MPH program. The MPH is the cornerstone of education in public health, preparing graduates for expanded roles in the 21st century. The MPH includes quality residential and online programs offered in various concentrations, with MPH Core and experiential learning. MPH@UNC is offered online via 2U, with same admissions criteria and diploma as the residential programs. Section instructors teach live, online, synchronous class sessions weekly for 13 weeks. Key responsibilities include facilitating weekly live sessions, grading assessments and providing feedback, responding to student questions, maintaining communications with lead faculty, and following a standardized syllabus and materials. Instructors must maintain reliable LMS access and appropriate tech requirements.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • A master’s in public health or related field is required. A PhD in public health or related field is preferred.
  • Significant work and/or teaching experience directly related to the course being taught.
  • Experience with public health practice or research focused on understanding factors that contribute to public health problems.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively manage group discussions.
  • Strong writing skills, with experience providing feedback on written assignments.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Experience/background in multiple public health topics and disciplines.
  • Experience teaching in higher education and/or online settings.
