Job summary

College of the Mainland is seeking Adjunct Government Instructors to join our part-time faculty. The immediate need is for 1-2 lecture classes in a live classroom format on campus at Texas City.

Qualified candidates hold a Master’s degree or higher in Political Science/Government, or a Master’s with 18 graduate hours in Political Science/Government, and have teaching experience. Familiarity with online instruction and D2L is a plus.

• Teaching experience.
• Familiar with D2L.
• Most preferred: Ability to teach Texas Government.
• Knowledge of student engagement techniques, learning styles, retention strategies, and learning-centered philosophy.

Preferred Education/Training/Experience

• Master’s degree or higher in Political Science/Government OR Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Political Science/Government.
• Teaching experience.

Detailed Knowledge

Detailed knowledge of materials being taught in the specific course and program area;
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;
Basic computer literacy sufficient to perform job duties;
Knowledge of student engagement techniques, learning styles, retention strategies, and learning-centered philosophy;
Experience with or willingness to learn the latest teaching/learning technologies and online instruction; and
Record keeping procedures.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

• Familiar with D2L
• Ability to create original lecture videos/audio for online courses
• Most preferred: Ability to teach Texas Government

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.
