  • Evaluate students using varied methods and report scores promptly.
  • Use Cleveland State email for all administrative communications and respond to student questions timely.
  • Meet deadlines for personnel paperwork, contracts, activity reports, and final grades.
  • Submit equipment, supplies, books, and other instructional aids via department channels.

Job Summary

Instructors provide quality instruction for student learning and maintain a positive learning environment in the class. The major emphasis for instructors is on teaching and evaluating students in the course. Classes are taught in a variety of formats and at several different locations, as well as online. Instructors also communicate with students between classes and are responsible for several administrative duties such as reporting on academic activity and submitting final grades.

Applicants should indicate in their cover letter whether they are interested in and available to teach on-ground, online, or in both formats.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Planning and teaching classes as assigned and as outlined in the course descriptions and course syllabi and departmental guidelines.
  • Beginning and ending all classes as scheduled and covering all relevant learning outcomes for each course.
  • Maintaining academic standards and classroom behavior to ensure an environment conducive to learning, communicating with students weekly, and answering student emails in a timely manner.
  • Evaluating students using a variety of methods and informing each student of scores received on each assessment in a timely manner.
  • Using Cleveland State email for administrative purposes and responding to student questions via Cleveland State email in a timely manner.
  • Meeting deadlines for all administrative requests such as submitting personnel paperwork, acknowledging contracts, academic activity and assessment reports, and final grades.
  • Submitting requests through the department chair, program coordinator/director, or lead teacher for equipment, supplies, textbooks, and other instructional aids.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a qualifying field from a regionally accredited institution, or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in a combination of related qualifying fields.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic background and professional experience in choral music and/or choir direction.
  • Three years of teaching experience.
  • Experience with alternative instructional delivery formats, such as hybrid, online, or interactive instruction.
Application & Employment Information

This posting does not guarantee an immediate or future open position. Applications for adjunct faculty positions are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed by the department as teaching needs arise. Teaching assignments are made on a term-by-term basis and may include fall, spring, and summer terms.

Adjunct faculty postings close annually on October 31. Applicants must reapply each year to keep their application active in the system.

Adjunct Faculty Compensation

Adjunct faculty compensation is based on the instructor’s educational qualifications. The current rates per credit hour are:

  • Master’s Degree: $650 per credit hour
  • Master’s Degree + 30 Graduate Semester Hours (ABD): $675 per credit hour
  • Doctoral Degree: $700 per credit hour
