Adjunct Faculty – TEMS Middle & Secondary (Part-Time)

This part‑time adjunct faculty position will be available for the Winter 2026 semester to teach the undergraduate course TEMS 317 – Methods: Teaching English Language Arts. The course is required for ACR teacher candidates seeking initial certification to teach diverse populations of middle and high school students in English Language Arts.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, and deliver curricular content for the course, including instruction on curriculum planning, standards, teaching strategies, and exemplary classroom practice.
  • Use learning management systems such as Canvas to prepare course materials, deliver online content, and manage student communications.
  • Provide instruction on campus, ensuring a learning environment that supports students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in middle and secondary education or a related field.
  • At least three years of successful classroom teaching experience in grades 5‑12.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Positive interaction with all members of the campus community.
  • Capability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College‑level teaching experience.
  • Experience with curriculum alignment and assessment.
  • Experience using Canvas as an online learning management system.
Working Conditions

The position is paid on a part‑time basis for approximately 10 instructional hours per week, located on the Michigan campus of Saginaw Valley State University. Duties are performed indoors with no exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
