Job summary

American College of Education seeks adjunct instructors to teach online courses across bachelor, master, and doctorate levels. Remote work with collaboration across teams to ensure high‑quality course delivery and student engagement.

Responsibilities include direct student interaction, timely responses, and monitoring course performance, while developing online relationships and contributing to program quality through research and professional activity.

Qualifications

• Earned terminal degree in a field associated with the department (ESL/BL, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy, Special Education).
• Must have a minimum of 3 peer‑reviewed professional publications and presentations (Doctoral Teaching & Learning).
• 1+ year(s) of experience in teaching in a formal educational setting using both traditional and non‑traditional teaching formats, higher education strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in successfully developing online/virtual professional relationships.
• Evidence of professional research and/or creative endeavors and expertise in the field.

Responsibilities

• Interact directly with students in an appropriate, professional manner.
• Facilitate a safe and productive learning environment for students.
• Respond in a timely manner to student requests for information, clarification of content, posts, and personal queries, and contact inactive students as the need arises.
• Oversee the quality of the course by reviewing functionality and content, ensuring high‑quality delivery of content.
• Expand the student experience by “fingerprinting” the course content with unique personal experience, insights, or other professional knowledge.
• Monitor and provide appropriate student feedback on assignments within college policies.
• Synthesize and report student performance data in a timeline manner.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and leadership of the college, including attending required meetings.

Compensation

Adjuncts are paid per student per course. Pay is $50/student at the bachelor and master levels and $126/student at the doctorate level. Opportunities exist to serve on paid committees and receive payment for writing and developing courses.

Day to Day Responsibilities

In this role, you will wear different hats, but your skills will be especially essential in the following areas:

Academic and Teaching Responsibilities

• Direct students to supplemental resources as needed to enhance their individual skills and abilities.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and leadership of the college, including attending required meetings.
• Promote the vision, mission, and culture of the college within and beyond the institution.
• Provide appropriate leadership within one’s individual sphere of influence.

Professional Development

• Maintain a professional and technical knowledge of curricula and industry by participating in leading‑edge educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Ensure the quality of program and course offerings by supporting and promoting research.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to communicate with and receive communications from students and ACE employees in real‑time using online and other electronic media.

AI Integration & Technology

Employees are increasingly integrating AI into their roles, demonstrating its potential to boost efficiency, accuracy, and productivity. By utilizing AI technologies, we can streamline processes, gain valuable insights from data, and automate routine tasks, which allows employees to concentrate on more strategic and creative aspects of their work. While AI is a beneficial tool in the workplace, if its use—such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, Copy.ai, etc.—accounts for more than 50% of any work assignments or job responsibilities, it will need to be reported to a direct leader.

Bandwidth Requirements

Internet bandwidth speeds from a remote work location must be a minimum of 50 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. If bandwidth is shared across multiple devices, higher overall speeds are required. The individual is responsible for purchasing, setting up, installing, supporting, and maintaining reliable internet service.
