Job description

Department: Petroleum Engineering Salary: Commensurate with experience

Description

The Department of Petroleum Engineering in the Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston is a dynamic, growing organization that offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses.

The Department of Petroleum Engineering anticipates an opening for a temporary, part-time Adjunct Faculty position for the upcoming Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters to teach the Capstone I and Capstone II senior-level courses. The successful candidate will assume full responsibility for the course delivery while collaborating closely with tenure-track faculty members in the department.

A Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related field is required, along with demonstrated experience leading field-scale projects in oil and gas, carbon storage, and/or geothermal energy applications. Proficiency in industry-standard software is highly desirable, including reservoir simulation tools (e.g., ECLIPSE, CMG, and HIS Harmony), KAPPA Engineering software, and applications for PVT analysis, material balance, well performance, and stimulation design and evaluation. Experience with Petrel, economic evaluation tools, and data extraction from commercial industry databases is also preferred. Additionally, prior experience in classroom instruction, as well as the development and delivery of industry training programs, is strongly valued.

Adjunct faculty appointments are offered on a semester-by-semester basis and may be renewed contingent upon institutional needs and demonstrated satisfactory performance.

We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to academic excellence.

Employees are expected to have a home address in the state of Texas for the duration of their appointments.

Official transcripts are required for a faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidates.
