Job summary

Dormont Manufacturing Co is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member for a part-time position to enhance the educational experience of students at Ivy Tech Community College. Responsibilities include delivering classes according to established syllabi, maintaining student records, and creating a positive learning environment. A Master's degree in physics or related field with relevant coursework is required.

Job description

General Purpose and Scope of Position

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

Major Responsibilities
  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develops and maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, show evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Monitors and documents student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provides necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.
  • This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Program Chair, Department Chair, or Dean. SUPERVISION GIVEN: None.

Classification

Part-Time.

Compensation

Compensation: $47.35 per contract hour.

Position Notes

This position is on an as-needed basis and demand can vary per semester enrollment.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.

PHYSICS / EARTH SCIENCE DISCIPLINE STANDARD: A qualified faculty member in physics and/or earth sciences meets the discipline standard through one of two routes:

  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in physics.
  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in any field with 18 graduate semester credit hours in physics-related courses.
