SUMMARY
Adjunct Faculty refers to an educator hired to teach on a course by course basis throughout an academic year.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach up to seven semester credit hours (up to two courses) within the required discipline. Instruction may be delivered on‑campus, off‑campus, or online and may be during the day and/or evening as dictated by student demand and departmental needs.
- Develop and manage the class syllabus and ensure that the syllabus meets department and college standards (for didactic courses).
- Plan and create lectures, in‑class discussions, and assignments (for didactic courses).
- Supervise clinical practice activities (simulation and clinical agencies) as assigned.
- Assess grades for students based on participation, performance in class and clinical, assignments, and examinations.
- Participate in course planning meetings as appropriate.
- Submit end‑of‑course reports as appropriate.
- Assist/mentor students as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Master’s degree in Nursing.
- Experience: One year clinical experience in the teaching area.
- Knowledge / Skills: Knowledge of patient care in the practice area related to teaching assignment; skilled in teaching pedagogy and nursing skills related to teaching assignment; demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to: Multi‑task and work cooperatively with others.
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: Texas R.N. Licensure or Texas APRN licensure as FNP (graduate clinical courses).
- Physical Requirements: Able to perform nursing and teaching skills associated with assignment.
- Other Requirements: Documentation of meeting clinical readiness requirements (immunizations, insurance, and BCLS as required of students).
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE
- Candidates who hold current relevant professional credentials (MSN with an emphasis in nursing education).
- College or university teaching experience.
- Evidence of teaching excellence.
- Prior relevant industry experience.
- Online or hybrid teaching experience.
