Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend is seeking adjunct faculty to teach Medical Laboratory Technology on a part-time, contract basis. You will create a learning environment, deliver classes per syllabi, and assess student progress within the framework of college policies.

Minimum qualifications include an associate degree in medical laboratory technology with 3+ years of lab experience and ASCPcm MLT certification. A bachelor's degree in MLS and ASCPcm MLS certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• An associate degree in medical laboratory technology and 3+ years' experience; ASCP MLT certification required.
• Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science and 3+ years' experience; ASCP MLS certification preferred.
• Credentials must be current and applicable to teaching assignments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
• Utilize available technology to enhance instructional methods.

Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: Join our team of dedicated laboratory professionals!

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and
assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

Employment Type : Part Time
Compensation: $47.35 Per contract Hour

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course
• objectives.
• Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
• Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains
• accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
• Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a
• positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and
• implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning
• (curricular).
• Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College
• policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
• Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all
• learning environments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An associate degree in medical laboratory technology and at least 3 years’ experience in the laboratory setting as a certified MLT; either as a laboratory generalist or in a specific department in which they will be teaching. ASCPcm MLT certification required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

A bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science and at least 3 years’ experience in the laboratory setting as a certified MLS; either as a laboratory generalist or in a specific department in which they will be teaching. ASCPcm MLS certification preferred.

RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS:

1. Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
2. Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources

including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1
