Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology, Building Science Trade Technology, Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or Vocational Education
  • Minimum of 10,000 work hours as an HVAC technician for the degree routes
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program with Journeyman status and 10,000 hours
  • 10 years' HVAC experience

  • Instruct and coordinate courses including lecture and/or lab-based classes, ensuring materials and safety standards are met

Position Title: HVAC/R Adjunct Campus: Agriculture and Industrial Technology Building Employment Type: Adjunct Faculty, Faculty Part time Department: Agricultural & Industrial Tech (JM - Faculty) Start Date: 05/31/2026

Job Description: Summary Illinois Central College is looking for Adjunct Faculty to teach Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC) Technology Courses. Providing instruction to a diverse group of students in the areas of heating, air-conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration. The program focuses on building energy efficiency. May include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus classes. Adjunct Faculty are primarily responsible for instructing assigned courses meeting classroom standards. The Adjunct Faculty must follow institutional syllabi. Additionally, Adjunct Faculty will be required to maintain office hours to best ensure student success. Adjunct Faculty teach on a part time basis up to 12 contact hours per semester.

HVAC/R TECHNOLOGY: ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE

The mission of the Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology Associate in Applied Science degree program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills pertaining to the maintenance, repair, and design of residential heating, cooling, and commercial refrigeration systems. After completing this program consisting of extensive laboratory as well as lecture-based coursework, graduates will be prepared to work as entry-level technicians in the following job classifications: heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics; sheet metal duct installers; residential heating and air conditioning installers; startup technicians; residential heating and air-conditioning designers; and general facilities repair persons.

HVAC TECHNICIAN: CERTIFICATE

The mission of the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician certificate program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills pertaining to the maintenance and repairing of air conditioning systems as well as the following heating systems: natural gas, propane, electric, air source heat pumps, geothermal, and hydronic heating systems. After completing the program coursework consisting of both lecture and extensive laboratory experiences, the graduates will be able to work as entry-level HVAC technicians or general facilities repair persons.

HVAC RESIDENTIAL INSTALLER: CERTIFICATE

The mission of the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Residential Installer certificate program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to understand and follow the manufacturer's specifications when installing basic residential heating and air conditioning equipment as well as the skills to complete the installation. Students will learn the theory of residential heating and cooling through extensive laboratory experience as well as lectures. After completing this program, the graduates will be able to work as entry-level residential furnace and air conditioner installers.

COMMERCIAL REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN: CERTIFICATE

The mission of the Commercial Refrigeration Technician Certificate program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills pertaining to the maintenance and repairing of ice machines as well as both medium and low temperature walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration. After completing the program coursework consisting of both lecture and lab experiences, the graduates will be prepared to seek employment as entry-level technicians as refrigeration mechanics or general facilities repair persons.

Applicants must be a resident of Illinois at the time of hire.

Minimum Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Bachelor's Degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology, Building Science Trade Technology, Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or Vocational Education & minimum of 10,000 work hours as a heating, ventilation, air-conditioning technician; OR Associate's Degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology & a minimum of 10,000 work hours as a heating, ventilation, air-conditioning technician; OR Completion of an apprenticeship program in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning Technology/Refrigeration Trades with Journeyman status for 5 years or more & a minimum of 10,000 work hours as a heating, ventilation, air-conditioning technician OR 10 years' work experience as a heating, ventilation, air-conditioning technician.
