Responsibilities

Teaching strategies will be incorporated to foster student learning, success and retention. Adjunct faculty will work with other faculty in support of curricula improvement as appropriate to promote students' success and mastery of course and program competencies. The person in this position will plan, organize and teach classes as assigned. Flexible hours, days and assigned campus location may vary due to enrollment.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Humanities
  • Master’s degree in Liberal Arts with a Humanities core
  • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in at least two of the following:
    • American Studies with a Humanities focus
    • Anthropology
    • Art Appreciation/History
    • Classics
    • Cultural Studies (e.g., Popular Culture, American Culture, Asian Culture, or African American Culture)
    • Drama
    • English/Creative Writing
    • Foreign Languages with a Humanities focus
    • History; Humanities; Interdisciplinary Studies with Humanities focus
    • Liberal/General Studies with Humanities focus
    • Literature (in English, Modern, and/or Classical Languages e.g. Spanish, Greek, Japanese); Music; Philosophy
    • Religion/Theology
    • Theatre and Western/Eastern Civilization
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of the learning-centered approach to teaching.
  • Teaching experience desired.

  • Personal and professional commitment to creating an atmosphere of quality instruction at SSC.
  • English reading, writing, and speaking skills at native level fluency.
  • Ability to utilize technology and innovative pedagogy to enhance teaching and learning.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.

Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule
  • Hourly rate per course contact hour:
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent – $44.76
    • Master’s degree – $48.65
    • Doctorate – $52.49
    • College Credit Courses Only – (rate not specified)

Conditions of Employment

Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based on the job description and responsibilities of the position.
