Job summary

Grand Rapids Community College and its Social Sciences department invite applications for an Adjunct Instructor to teach History in fall and/or winter semesters on our Grand Rapids and Lakeshore campuses. Responsibilities include delivering established syllabi, using textbooks determined by the department, and maintaining accurate records.

Ideal candidates hold a Master's in History and have college teaching experience, preferably with diverse learners, and familiarity with LMS platforms such as

• Master's degree in History from an accredited institution required.
• Teaching experience at a community college preferred.
• Experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic skills.
• Proficiency in using instructional technology and learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard).

Responsibilities

• Teach GRCC course offerings in History.
• Follow the required syllabus template and department-determined textbooks.
• Keep accurate student records and report grades by deadline.
• Promote an engaging, inclusive classroom and meet course outcomes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Teach GRCC course offerings in HistoryPerform tasks normally expected of adjunct faculty membersFollow the required syllabus templateUse the required textbook as determined by the departmentMeet classes during the time scheduled and for the appropriate length of time required by the Collective Bargaining AgreementState course outcomes clearly at the beginning of the course and state the criteria and procedures for evaluating student attainment of these objectivesPromote an intellectually stimulating atmosphere in the classroom which is conducive to the attainment of high academic achievement and stated course outcomesKeep accurate student academic recordsReport grades by contractual deadlineMake reasonable accommodations as approved by the Disability Support Services to meet students needs and in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act ADAFollow College policy on the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act FERPAMake all reasonable efforts to respond to communication in a timely manner and provide reasonable means for student access to course information
