Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana seeks adjunct faculty to teach on a part-time basis, delivering classes per college policy and course objectives while maintaining accurate records. You will employ technology to enhance instruction, develop syllabi, lesson plans, assignments and tests, and engage with students to support their learning within FERPA guidelines.

Strong knowledge of current instructional technologies and credentials in early childhood education are required; bilingual Spanish

Qualifications

  • Possesses a master’s or higher in early childhood education.
  • 18 graduate credits in related field; appropriate to course being taught.
  • Professional certification or 2 years related work experience in ECE.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned classes per policy and course objectives.
  • Utilize technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develop/maintain outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials; maintain records.
  • Engage with students to promote learning and positive experiences with Ivy Tech.
  • Monitor/document student performance; provide interventions and referrals as needed.
  • Interact professionally with students and colleagues; follow college policies.
  • Ensure knowledge of and practice safe classroom, lab, and learning environment procedures.

Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as‑needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

COMPENSATION:

Part‑Time, $47.35/contact hour

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
  • Interacts with students and co‑workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION DISCIPLINE STANDARD
  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in early childhood education, child development;
  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate credit hours in courses closely related to early childhood education and development, with academic preparation appropriate to the course and /or specialty being taught;
  • Possesses one of the following:
    • Professional certification in the field;
    • Two years of directly related work experience in the field of early childhood - birth through age 8.

Bilingual‑Spanish language preferred
