POSITION SUMMARY:

Clinical Mental Health Counseling adjunct faculty are responsiblefor instructing and facilitating meaningful learning of the courseoutcomes in the curriculum and proactively supporting all facets ofthe learning environment adhering to South University’s mission andCACREP standards. This role promotes a student-centered learningenvironment that prepares graduates to fulfill the evolving needsof the marketplace. Faculty are expected to foster a culture thatvalues mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning,diversity, and ethics as well as personal and professionaldevelopment. This is a campus based position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Provides competency-based education which aligns with the SouthUniversity model of curricula as well as supports the SouthUniversity style of system delivery in keeping with CACREPstandards.
  2. Designs and delivers instruction through the development ofinstructional plans to meet knowledge and skills-based courseoutcomes, the development of activities that support lessonobjectives, and for online courses, deliver the instruction asapproved within each course shell.
  3. Effectively utilizes technology in the classroom to support thestudent learning experience.
  4. Enables the achievement of pre-defined KPI outcomes for studentachievement and evaluation of learning by providing instructionthat fosters proficiency and establishes student performancecriteria and evaluation.
  5. Delivers learning-centered instruction by establishing aneducational environment conducive to learning and studentinvolvement and effectively planning and preparing for classes andstudent success.
  6. Promotes student success by showing flexibility in style andwork schedule and exhibiting a passion for teaching and students,and engaging students in the learning process.
  7. Manages the educational environment through keeping accuraterecords, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcingacademic and attendance policies consistent with the CMHC program,school, campus, or online division.
  8. Relates professional clinical experience to learning bycontinuing professional knowledge and skills development, theintroduction of varied therapeutic approaches into courses, and theactive awareness of counseling trends and opportunities.
  9. Participates in the faculty development process to enhanceknowledge, skills, and abilities in learner-centeredinstruction.
  10. Communicates consistently and effectively with supervisor(s),faculty, and other South University administrators.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • Earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education or a closelyrelated field relevant to the area they would teach.
Experience:
  • Ability to read, understand, write, interpret, and implementaccreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
  • Ability to teach in a manner that meets CACREP standards whileimplementing real world and current scenarios to discuss counselingtheories and standards in a manner that informs and educates butdoes not engender classroom conflict.
  • Academic Processes - knowledge of university guidelines, coursedescriptions, and academic terminology
  • Clerical - knowledge of office administrative procedures,including accurate record-keeping
  • Computer - ability to perform basic computer processes,including word processing, web browsing, and utilization ofMicrosoft Office
  • Technical Knowledge and Application - proficiency with theonline learning environment, including the creation of digitalmedia and utilization of learning management systems
  • Mathematics – ability to perform basic mathematiccalculations
  • Critical Thinking - uses logic and reasoning to look atdifferent types of information in order to make conclusions andwork through problems
  • Research - Locates key facts and information to learn moreabout different types of information
  • Interpersonal Skills - communicates and interacts with peopleeffectively while being aware of social perceptions
License/Certifications:
  • Membership in a professional association tied to the counselingprofession is preferred.
