Job summary

Ivy Tech Bloomington is hiring part-time adjunct faculty to teach basic communication courses on campus, including Fundamentals of Public Speaking and Introduction to Interpersonal Communication. Daytime on-campus availability is required for classes scheduled Monday/Wednesday 9:00-11:50 and Tuesday/Thursday 1:00-3:50 (8-week) or 9:30-10:45 (16-week).

Adjuncts teach 3–13 hours per week and are paid $46.75 per contact hour.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in speech or communication (or related field) or Master’s with 18 graduate credit hours in related discipline.
• Ability to teach basic communication courses (Fundamentals of Public Speaking; Introduction to Interpersonal Communication).
• Experience with Canvas or distance learning is preferred.

Job description

Ivy Tech Bloomington is looking for part time adjunct faculty to teach basic communication courses on campus, including \"Fundamentals of Public Speaking\" and \"Introduction to Interpersonal Communication.\" We are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills who can inspire their students and create an impactful learning experience in a diverse collegiate environment. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating an active learning environment and providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.
On-campus courses are scheduled for Mondays/Wednesdays and Tuesdays/Thursdays from 9am-11:50am and 1pm-3:50pm (8-week courses) or 9:30am-10:45am (16-week courses). Daytime, on campus availability is required for this position.
Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjuncts teach between 3 and 13 hours per week and make $46.75 per contact hour.
Applicants should apply no later than February 28, 2026. Interviews will be conducted by March. New hires will begin in the fall 2026 semester (first day of classes August 24th).

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
• Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
• Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
• Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
• Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
• Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.
• Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction.
• Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

A qualified faculty member teaching COMM 101-Fundamentals of Public Speaking meets credentialing by one of two routes:
1. Possesses an earned master's or higher degree in speech or communication, from a regionally accredited institution; or
2. Possesses an earned master's degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in a discipline related to the course (e.g., rhetoric, linguistics, homiletics, law, theatre, public relations)
