Job Duties
Adjunct nursing clinical instructors are responsible for facilitating clinical learning experiences in a variety of area healthcare facilities for no more than 10 nursing students per Kentucky Board of Nursing regulation (201 KAR 20:260).
- Provide hands‑on clinical instruction and supervision of nursing students while in the clinical setting of not more than 10 students per Kentucky Board of Nursing regulation (201 KAR 20:260)
- Facilitate meaningful learning experiences including use of the nursing process and clinical judgement.
- Assess and evaluate student learning, providing feedback in a timely manner to promote student success.
- Facilitate development of clinical reasoning skills, professional identity, and use of effective communication skills while providing safe patient care in the clinical setting.
- Complete clinical evaluation of student performance weekly, at mid‑term and final end of term.
- Act as a liaison between the nursing program and the healthcare facility.
- Participate in MCTC clinical instructor orientation and course specific faculty meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing, or equivalent
- Two years of full‑time, or equivalent, experience as a registered nurse within the immediate past five years.
- Current active, unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse to practice in the state of Kentucky.
- To satisfy the requirements of area clinical facilities the successful candidates will be required to submit to a drug screen.
- Interacts effectively and professionally with students, staff, faculty, and external customers of Maysville Community and Technical College including Advisory Board Members, clinical site preceptors, and other off‑campus sites.
- Exceptional customer‑focused skills. Ability to address student needs and resolve issues with diplomacy and tact.
- Interpersonal skills including questioning, listening, and showing respect for others.
- Efficient writing skills to communicate effectively in memos, letters, and via email.
- Strong mentorship, communication, and organizational skills to guide and evaluate nursing students.
- Ability to maintain student and patient confidentiality.
- Possess a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and code of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities.
- Commitment to the success of the nursing student, program of nursing, and Maysville Community and Technical College.
- Computer literacy skills including working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
