Job summary

MCPHS is seeking adjunct faculty to teach biology lab courses for Fall 2026 on our Boston campus. Courses include first-year biology, microbiology, and anatomy & physiology.

You will deliver lab instruction, review materials, and assist with setup and grading. Excellent communication and teamwork are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in biology or related field.
• Commitment to undergraduate education and student success.
• Minimum of one year teaching biology at college/university level (preferred).
• For microbiology labs, experience with oil immersion, Gram staining, aseptic technique, biochemical tests.

Responsibilities

• Deliver laboratory instruction.
• Communicate with lab coordinators professionally and promptly.
• Prepare for teaching with background content, lab protocols, notes, videos.
• Assist with set-up and clean-up of lab materials.
• Grade assignments in a timely manner.
• Respond to emails from students, coordinators, and admins promptly.
• Use the LMS to enter grades.
• Offer office hours or appointments via Zoom/Teams/phone or email.

Job description

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks adjunct faculty to teach biology lab courses for the upcoming Fall 2026 semester on our Boston campus. Lab courses include first-year college biology, second-year microbiology, and anatomy & physiology.

• Delivers laboratory instruction
• Communicates with lab coordinators in a professional and timely manner in preparation for teaching.
• Comes prepared to teach, including reviewing background content, lab protocols, instructor notes, videos, etc.
• Assist with set-up and clean-up of lab materials
• Grades assignments in a timely manner
• Replies to emails from students, lab coordinators, and administrators in a timely manner
• Uses the University’s learning management system to enter grades
• Assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by Zoom/Teams, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms

Required

• Advanced degree (masters or PhD) in biology or similar discipline
• Commitment to undergraduate education and student success
• Minimum of one (1) year teaching biology at the college/university level, preferred
• For microbiology labs, experience with oil immersion microscopy, Gram staining, aseptic technique, biochemical tests, serial dilutions, etc.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team, effectively interacting with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, lab coordinators, co-instructors, administration, staff)
