Qualifications

• Engaging in periodic meetings with department members for teaching duties and development.
• Creating a positive classroom atmosphere that supports active and collaborative learning.
• Using technology to assist communication with students and promote learning community.

Job description

Responsibilities

The Adjunct—English, Developmental Reading and Writing position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment. Responsibilities include:

• Teaching pre-college reading or writing courses according to the learning outcomes and best practices outlined by the English Department.


• Designing curriculum to foster talent in all students, utilizing effective teaching strategies, and understanding the needs of traditionally underserved students.


• Monitoring teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair or other leadership members.


• Keeping accurate records, including attendance, grades, and progress feedback, in accordance with departmental policies.


• Distributing and maintaining accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements.


• Conducting classes punctually in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.


• Employing appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives.


• Engaging in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development.

Student Engagement & Advisement

• Creating a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, and support for learners.


• Using technology to assist communication with students and to promote community among students for learning inside and outside the classroom.


• Referring students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in English, English Education, or a closely related field.


• Two (2) years of experience teaching reading and/or writing to adults or students in grades 6-12.

Additional Information

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Compensation Details

• Compensation: $55.88 per contact hour.


• Contact Hour: Two hours equals one contact hour.


• Hours: Maximum of 12 contact hours per week.


• Full Time/Part Time: Part time.
