Job summary

Del Mar College seeks an adjunct Electrical Trades Instructor to provide classroom, distance learning, and practical shop instruction to prepare students for employment in electrical trades. You will teach NCCER Electrical program courses and develop curriculum in residential and commercial settings.

Responsibilities include maintaining program compliance, procuring and maintaining equipment, and delivering instruction with diverse methods to meet course outcomes.

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time/adjunct assignments on an as-needed basis. Job Description Summary

The Electrical Trades Instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction, distance learning instruction, and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in a variety of jobs in the field of Electrical Trades. The Instructor will teach courses related to the core skills used by electricians in residential and commercial settings. Topics include safety, hand/power tool use, National Electrical Code, residential and commercial, wiring, electrical theory, blueprint reading, motor controls, and transformers.
Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline. Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need. Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction. Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes. Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.
Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures. Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials. Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work. Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning. Be available for and encourage conferences with students so there is a clearer understanding of the students’ work and the possibility of improvement. Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.
Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes and program practices to bring about action plans devised to implement systemic improvement in programs and assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry and higher education.
Accept special assignments occasionally. Participate in department, divisional, and College meetings as necessary. Participate in activities required to maintain program and College accreditation standards. Participate in the College planning process by assisting in the formulation of goals and objectives and budget priorities. Meet professional assignments in accordance with the College calendar. Participate in business and/or community activities that promote the mission of the College.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s Degree in the discipline and three (3) years industry related work experience.

OR

High school diploma or GED equivalent and ten (10) years industry related work experience.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus/ outline provided to insure course content and objectives are met.

Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.

Successful experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources and other appropriate media in instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.

Successful teaching or vocational training experience.

Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods which enhance student success.

Knowledge of a learning college and/or knowledge of learning communities.

Experience teaching college level online courses and/or documented successful training in a college online learning management system (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas).

Industry related Certifications such as a Master Electrician License, State of Texas.
