Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or closely related field.
• Approximately five or more years of relevant professional experience.
• Completion of FE, EIT, and/or PE licensure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teach both lecture and laboratory courses in person in Reading, Pennsylvania.
• Avail weekday daytime teaching hours, primarily between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
• Support program accreditation considerations and maintain ABET standards.

The John R. Post School of Engineering at Alvernia University invites applications to its adjunct faculty pool in Electrical Engineering. We seek professionals to teach both lecture and laboratory courses in person in Reading, Pennsylvania. Most engineering courses are taught at the John R. Post Center, 401 Penn Street, Reading, PA, with some activities potentially using other Alvernia Reading locations. Applicants must be available for weekday daytime teaching, primarily between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. This daytime availability is an important requirement for these in-person positions. Lecture courses typically meet on multiple days each week, so applicants must be able to commit to a recurring weekday schedule for the full semester. Remote or hybrid teaching is not available for these pools. Hired candidates join the adjunct pool and may receive separate contracts for individual courses as needs arise. Pool appointment does not guarantee a course assignment.

The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for Electrical, Computer, Communications, Telecommunication(s), and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.

Potential teaching areas

Circuits and Electronics

Circuit theory, analog electronics, electronic devices, electronic design, electrical measurements, and circuits and electronics laboratories.

Digital Systems and Automation

Digital logic and design, embedded and microcontroller-based systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial controls, and related laboratory instruction.

Electromagnetics and Electromechanical Energy Conversion

Engineering electromagnetics, electric machines, electromechanical energy conversion, and related electrical energy systems.

Instrumentation, Measurement, and Control Systems

Instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition, measurement and dynamic response, control systems, robotics, mechatronics, and laboratory instruction.

Electrical Engineering Design and Advanced Topics

Engineering design, capstone, and upper-level electrical engineering electives.

Preferred qualifications

We particularly welcome practicing engineers and technical professionals who can bring current industry experience into the classroom. Prior college teaching is not required. Preferred candidates will have at least a master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related field and approximately five or more years of relevant professional experience. These are preferred qualifications, not absolute minimums; comparable combinations of advanced education, professional licensure, specialized expertise, industry experience, research, and teaching will be considered. Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, and/or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus.
