Savannah Technical College seeks a part-time Adjunct Dental Hygiene Instructor for the Savannah Campus. In this role you will teach, supervise, and assess students in classrooms, labs, and clinics, and prepare curriculum and lesson plans.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in dental hygiene or related field, a Georgia dental hygiene license, and basic computer skills. Master’s degree and prior teaching experience are preferred; position contingent on funding and background checks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in dental hygiene or related field from an accredited, post-secondary institution.
  • Current knowledge of the specific subjects of the appointed teaching assignments.
  • Faculty who are dental hygienists or dentists must be graduates of a CODA-accredited program and hold a current unencumbered Georgia dental or dental hygiene license.
  • Basic computer skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and clinicals using appropriate teaching methods.
  • Prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for the dental hygiene courses.
  • Develop and coordinate curriculum; conduct assessments of all courses taught in the department as requested.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of courses through student data, graduate surveys, and employer surveys.
  • Maintain and submit accurate reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
  • Coordinate cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned.

The individual will report to the Dean for Health Sciences and the Department Head of the Dental Hygiene Program. The Dental Hygiene Program adjunct faculty will be responsible for the following duties:Responsibilities :Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and clinicals through using appropriate teaching methodsPrepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for the dental hygiene coursesDevelop and coordinate curriculum; conduct assessments of all courses taught in the department as requestedEvaluate effectiveness of courses through student data, graduate surveys, and employer surveysEvaluate instruction and learning by means of appropriate testing and/or evaluation methodsMaintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-upCoordinate cooperative work experience programs and students as assignedAssist with completion of reports and requests for information from internal and external departments and agenciesEnsure compliance with dental hygiene accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting agenciesAttend and assist with coordinating dental hygiene advisory committee for the departmentParticipate in College committees and meetingsCollaborate with colleagues on common curriculum areasInstruct students, develops program syllabi, goals, and objectivesMaintain a student-oriented approach to educationAssist department head and/or program coordinator, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective programAttend faculty and other meetings as assignedMaintain desirable and safe laboratory and clinical conditions Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferencesFollow policies/procedures of Savannah Technical College, to include standards for student- faculty professional relationships/interaction.Communicate and interact professionally, with college employees, students, and visitors, utilizing excellent organizational and customer service skillsImprove professionally and maintains currency in the courses taught by: Reading and utilizing materials found in trade, technical, and professional publications; Surveying and researching industrial and business establishments; Obtaining and maintaining certification and degree as required; Attending professional and specialty courses; Keeping abreast of new development trends. and techniques.Perform other duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in dental Hygiene or related field from an accredited, post-secondary institution.Current knowledge of the specific subjects of the appointed teaching assignments.Faculty who are dental hygienists or dentists must be graduates of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and hold a current unencumbered State Of Georgia dental or dental hygiene license.Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.Basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, Word; Excel; Power Point; and Outlook.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree or higher from an accredited, post-secondary institution.Two years clinical practice experience.Two years teaching experience.Experience teaching adults and/or supervising students in a clinical setting.Background in current educational methodology, theory and practice.Physical DemandsTeaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) - four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10 lbs. or less. Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, long term care facility, or other medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or walk for ten (10) - twelve (12) hours: bend, twist, push/and or pull for three (3) - four ( 4) hours; and occasionally lift 50 lbs. to 75 lbs. per rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations.Salary/BenefitsSalary is commensurate with education and work experience .Application ProcedurePosition considered open until filled.
