Job Overview

The Adjunct – Anthropology position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with a major emphasis on teaching, supporting, and evaluating students. The incumbent is responsible for instruction and monitoring teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair or other leadership members.

Essential Job Functions

• Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with department policies, ensuring rigor and quality of instruction.
• Considers individual differences of students to design and support appropriate learning activities.
• Participates in the identification of students with academic or other needs and responds using appropriate resources.
• Uses technology appropriate to the objectives of courses and communicates expectations to students.
• Maintains accurate student records, attendance, and grades in accordance with college policies.
• Distributes and maintains accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross‑college, and instructor requirements.
• Conducts classes punctually and attends scheduled meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson regarding teaching duties and professional development.
• Engages in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development.
• Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, academic challenge, and student–faculty interaction.
• Uses technology to assist in communication with students and encourages a sense of community among learners.
• Recommends students to appropriate academic support services available at the college or in the community.
• Fosters a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, and students.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Anthropology or a related discipline.
• State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Working Conditions

This position may involve in‑person or online teaching modalities in a classroom environment.

Compensation

Hourly rate: $55.88 per contact hour. A contact hour is defined as two class hours. The maximum is 12 contact hours per week. This is a part‑time position.
