Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in ESL, TESOL, Education, or a related field (or relevant degree for STEM areas).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in the discipline to be tutored is required unless Vet Tech or Surgical Tech (associates required for those fields).
  • Willingness to work with writing, STEM, and ESL tutoring areas as available.

  • Provide tutoring and academic support to students in designated subject areas, helping strengthen understanding of course material and improve academic performance.
  • Assist with learning resources, student engagement activities, and the promotion of academic success services.

Job description

An employee in this class performs a variety of tutoring and academic support duties to assist students enrolled at Suffolk County Community College. The tutor provides individual and/or small-group instructional support in designated subject areas, helping students strengthen their understanding of course material, develop effective study skills, and improve academic performance. Duties are performed in accordance with established academic success & tutoring center guidelines and under the supervision of professional staff. The tutor may assist with learning resources, student engagement activities, and the promotion of academic success services. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
ESL Tutor Requirements

Bachelor's degree in ESL, TESOL, Education, ora relatedfieldrequired.

STEM Tutor Requirements

Bachelor's degree required in the discipline to be tutored unless Vet Tech or Surgical Tech( associates requiredfor those fields).

Eligible fields include, but are not limited to:
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Accounting
  • Computer Information Technology
  • Psychology
  • Other related STEM disciplines
Writing Studio Tutor Requirements

Bachelor's degreerequiredin one of the following fields:

  • English
  • English Education
  • Creative Writing
  • Composition and Rhetoric
HIRING SALARY:

The exact salary will bedeterminedby prior teaching experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College.
