Additive Manufacturing Application Engineer

Position: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Designfusion is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Application Engineer to join our Additive Manufacturing team. This role involves providing technical expertise and pre‑sales support for our 3D printer sales and parts printing production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in 3D printing, technical support, and customer service. The individual will gain experience working with a variety of industry types while being part of a dynamic team.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver technical expertise and pre‑sales support for the Additive Manufacturing business.
  • Engage in on‑site consultations with clients to discover cost‑saving opportunities through Additive Manufacturing.
  • Lead training sessions to instruct customers on 3D printer operation and maintenance.
  • Participate in Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) activities using Siemens CAD software and 3D nesting software.
  • Perform 3D printer maintenance, technical support, diagnosis, and repair.
  • Conduct post‑processing of printed parts, including bead blasting, cleaning, removing supports, color dying, quality checking, and shipping.

Requirements:

  • Proficient in Siemens NX, Solid Edge, or comparable CAD software.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining 3D printers.
  • Strong technical support and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for conducting technical presentations and training sessions.
  • Candidate must be energetic, a self‑starter, and be able to work effectively with little supervision.
  • Daily travel to the Designfusion Auburn Hills, MI office is required.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites within the Greater Detroit, MI area and occasionally out of town (up to 30% travel).

Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Additive Manufacturing or related technical support roles.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles.
  • Familiarity with 3D nesting software and Siemens engineering software solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
