Job summary

The Office of Addiction Services and Supports in New York State seeks an Addictions Counselor 1 to join the multidisciplinary treatment team at the Addiction Treatment Center. The role involves direct counseling, individual and group therapy, and coordination with social services and community agencies.

Candidates must hold CASAC credentials in NYS or be eligible for transfer, and maintain Medicaid/Medicare eligibility. Overtime is required to ensure 24/7 program coverage and client safety.

Qualifications

• Currently employed as an Addictions Counselor 1 or eligible for CASAC in New York State.
• Applicants must possess current registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in New York State.
• For permanent HELPS program, current CASAC in NYS.
• Must maintain Medicaid/Medicare eligibility for employment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary counselor for assigned patient groups and manage clinical services.
• Provide individual and group therapy and facilitate activities.
• Interview patients and review history; complete assessments for treatment plans.
• Monitor patient progress toward treatment goals.
• Complete required documentation per OASAS procedures and confidentiality regulations.
• Provide orientation about programs, policies, and rules.
• Conduct crisis intervention.
• Coordinate with external agencies to ensure continuity of services.
• Transport patients using agency vehicles.
• Participate in meal preparation and distribution.
• Communicate shift-change information to ensure smooth transitions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
