Job summary

City of Baltimore is seeking an Addiction Counselor I to conduct substance use assessments for Pretrial Services clients. The role includes counseling, case management, and coordinating referrals to treatment facilities while monitoring progress and documenting outcomes.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree and Maryland ADT/CSC-AD/CAC-AD certifications; equivalencies accepted as noted. This is a non-civil service, full-time position with 6-month probation and background checks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; ADT/CSC-AD/CAC-AD certification from Maryland Board.
• Equivalency option: AA degree + 2 years counseling experience.
• Knowledge of diagnostic criteria, treatment modalities and continuum of care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct substance use assessments and refer clients to appropriate treatment facilities.
• Provide counseling and case management for clients with substance use disorders with less complex needs.
• Screen clients to determine initial course of action for treatment; document and report progress.
• Assess clients to gather information for planning treatment and evaluating progress.
