Job summary

SamaritanDaytopVillage in Blauvelt, NY seeks an Addiction Counselor (CASAC) to deliver evidence-based counseling within a trauma-informed, harm-reduction framework. You will assess and stabilize clients with mental health or substance use crises, coordinating care with peers and medical providers to support long-term recovery.

Responsibilities include individual and group therapy, discharge planning, and education on medications for addiction treatment and overdose prevention.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred human services/behavioral health degree.
• Current NY OASAS CASAC or CASAC-T credential with path to full certification.
• Minimum of one year of experience in SUD treatment or related field.
• Proficiency in DSM-5-TR and ASAM criteria for clinical assessments.
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices including motivational interviewing and CBT.
• Experience with trauma-informed care and supporting co-occurring disorders.
• Understanding of medications for addiction treatment and non-stigmatizing education.
• Familiarity with EHRs and confidentiality regulations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct substance use disorder assessments and develop treatment plans tailored to needs.
• Deliver individual and group counseling using MI, CBT, and trauma-informed approaches.
• Educate clients on medications for addiction treatment and overdose prevention.
• Coordinate referrals and discharge planning with medical providers and programs.
• Monitor progress and collaborate with teams and families to remove barriers.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation per standards.
