Job summary

Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe is seeking an Addiction Counselor Aide to support licensed counselors at the HHS – Men’s Halfway House. You will gather history, assist in therapy groups, monitor clients, and document progress in a collaborative team setting.

The role emphasizes cultural awareness, confidentiality (HIPAA), and the commitment to ongoing professional development. Employment is full-time, on-site with rotating shifts to cover 24/7 operations.

Qualifications

• Require high school diploma; associate degree in mental health or social work preferred.
• Experience in mental health, substance abuse recovery, or human services preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills, confidentiality, and ability to work in a team.
• Willingness to complete crisis intervention training if not experienced.
• Knowledge of disease concept and addiction.
• Familiarity with Mille Lacs Band culture and traditions.
• Commitment to cultural programming in substance recovery.
• HIPAA familiarity and confidentiality requirements.
• Effective communication and writing abilities.
• Basic Windows/Word skills.
• If in recovery, two years and two letters of support required.
• Must have driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must pass state background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol test.

Responsibilities

• Gather initial substance use history and monitor patients.
• Assist and provide support for educational and therapeutic groups.
• Provide immediate support and safety monitoring for clients in distress.
• Document client progress and communicate with the treatment team.
• Assist with client intake and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Assist with crisis intervention and coping skills development.
• Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
• Pursue ongoing professional development.
• Transport clients when transport staff are unavailable.
• Conduct chemical dependency program orientation sessions.
• Coordinate with program staff on treatment planning progress.
• Conduct urine analysis as needed.
• Complete training to pass medications when assigned.
• Provide written and verbal communication to staff.
• Maintain confidentiality of program records.
