Job description

West Central Behavioral Health Clinic in Bismarck, North Dakota is seeking an Addiction Counselor.

This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $14,000.

Be part of the solution to the behavioral health crisis. As a team member for ND Department of Health & Human Services, you will ensure the most vulnerable have access to a high-quality healthcare system in which prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover.

As an Addiction Counselor, you will have the opportunity to meet people where they are and help them take meaningful steps toward recovery. Your work will support individuals in building the skills and confidence they need to live and work as independently as possible in their home communities.

You will complete American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) level-of-care screenings and help develop service plans based on each person's individual needs and goals. You will provide individual, family, and group counseling, along with crisis intervention and risk assessments both in the office and throughout the community.

Recovery looks different for everyone, and so does the support they need. Some people may be comfortable meeting in an office, while others may need you to meet them in their home or another community setting. You should be comfortable providing outreach and adjusting your approach based on where each person is in their recovery journey.

You will not do this work alone. You will be part of a team that relies on one another for support, knowledge, and resources. Together, you will work to ensure the people you serve receive consistent, high-quality, person-centered care. You will also have opportunities to provide education and consultation to families, community partners, interns, and residents.

To thrive in this position, you should believe in a person-centered and rehabilitative approach to care and understand that building trust is an important part of helping someone move forward.

You should be comfortable working with people who have different needs, experiences, and levels of support.

You should be flexible and comfortable providing services in a variety of settings, including the office, a person's home, or other locations within the community.

You should also be committed to continuing to learn and staying current on assessments, treatment approaches, and crisis intervention practices. Your willingness to grow and work collaboratively with your team will help ensure the people you serve receive the best support possible.

To be considered for the Addiction Counselor position, you are required to have a bachelor's degree in Addiction Counseling, Addiction Studies, Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology, AND have current licensure as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) by the North Dakota Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners.

If unable to find a Licensed Addition Counselor We will consider filling with an Addiction Technician at a reduced rate between $5,000 and $5,500 per month.

  • To be considered as an Addiction Tech you must have completed all, but two (2) academic courses required by the North Dakota Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners.

  • Verification of program progress must be completed by the board prior to interview. Relevant degree programs commonly include Addiction Counseling, Addiction Studies, Social Work, Counseling or Psychology.

  • Applicants hired as an Addiction Tech must complete all required coursework, training and examinations and be licensed as an Addiction Counselor by the North Dakota Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners within two (2) years of hire date.

This position requires a valid driver's license and successful completion of the assigned defensive driving course during new hire orientation.
