Overview

The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.

Note: All DOC positions are Safety Sensitive and are subject to random drug testing. Use of medical marijuana, even with a registry card, is prohibited in these positions according to state law and department policy.

FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT

Salary Range: $36,155.00 - $57,668.00

Summary

The Correctional Officer I is responsible for maintaining security and overseeing inmate activities within a correctional facility, including monitoring behavior and documenting records. This role is governed by applicable laws and policies.

Functions
  • Supervises inmate conduct during various activities such as in cells, group meetings, meals, and recreation.
  • Maintains perimeter security and monitors visitor access.
  • Performs security checks, including shakedowns and strip searches.
  • Logs work release inmates and writes incident reports.
  • Escorts inmates to visitations, court, and work assignments.
  • Attends shift briefings to discuss incidents and security issues.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Shift work, exposure to danger, and emergency on-call duties may be required.

  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
