Job summary

Sheffield Elementary School in Lynchburg, Virginia is seeking an Instructional Assistant for Special Education Adaptive (2) to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth in collaboration with teachers and other staff.

The role involves aiding in small groups, supporting online learning, and assisting with routines and behavior development for students with IEP goals and accommodations. Immediate start and 190 school days per year noted.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility; or an Associate’s Degree; or completed the ParaPro assessment.
• Some experience in working with children.

Responsibilities

• Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning objectives and standards.
• Assists with small group learning activities.
• Provides instructional support during online learning.
• Assists with the development of students’ social/emotional skills.
• Supports students in learning classroom/school routines and procedures.
• Provides supervision and a safe environment for students during structured and unstructured times such as lunch, recess, transitions, loading/unloading of buses and any other assigned duties.
• Maintains a positive, professional, solution-focused demeanor at all times.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Willingness to substitute or perform duties as requested.
