Job summary

High Country Adaptive Sports in Flagstaff, AZ, seeks adaptive ski instructors to teach safe, effective, and fun lessons to participants with disabilities. Responsibilities include assessment, lesson planning, and collaboration with Snowbowl staff to support the program.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree or in progress, disability experience, and CPR/First Aid; mentors and clinics are part of the season. Flexible schedule, December 1, 2024–March 31, 2025, with wage starting at $20/hour.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or pursuing a degree in the field desired.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • PSIA/AASI Certification and Experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think creatively, and work collaboratively and independently.
  • Active problem solver.
  • Ability to advocate for what your student needs most.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to continuous skills/ teaching improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment for each day's lessons, including rentals or sit skis.
  • Assist students with waivers, pay, and paperwork.
  • Teach skiing and snowboarding lessons according to teaching progressions, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Respectfully collaborate with various departments throughout daily operations.
  • Teach students from age 4 to older adults with any kind of disability.
  • Collaborate with other staff, instructors, and volunteers to ensure program success.
  • Learn to adapt equipment to varying abilities through training and lessons.
  • Establish a strong pre-lesson plan and on-snow assessment.
  • Adhere to all risk management protocols to ensure safety of all students and instructors.
  • Write daily progress reports for each lesson to track goals and progressions.
  • Communicate respectfully and think critically to promote a positive program culture.
  • Attend mentorship meetings and staff meetings as planned by Programs Director.
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks and maintenance.
