Job summary

University of Arizona's Large Binocular Telescope Observatory seeks an Adaptive Optics Associate to conduct nighttime operations and provide technical support for AO systems. The role involves routine AO setup, diagnostics, and contributing to enhancements for system robustness and efficiency.

You will grow into a technical expert on LBTO AO systems, collaborating with an international team and working at the Tucson campus at 933 N Cherry Ave. DOE compensation and full benefits apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to the remote observatory site.

Responsibilities

• Operate Adaptive Optics equipment for nighttime observations with guidance from senior staff.
• Perform routine AO setup/checkout to prepare for activities.
• Diagnose performance issues and provide on-site hardware assistance as directed.
• Contribute to operational documentation to improve AO performance.
• Assist in designing and implementing new AO equipment under supervision.
