A leading state department seeks a qualified individual to work closely with medical staff to develop and design tailored equipment for individuals with developmental disabilities. The position requires strong fabrication skills and effective communication, with the possibility to make a significant impact on the lives of residents. Applicants should possess relevant experience and a commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
The primary purpose of this position is to work in conjunction with the Adaptive Equipment Director, medical staff, physical therapist, and other professional staff to develop and fabricate complex solutions for individuals with developmental disabilities. This may involve various aspects of daily living needs, mobility, accessibility, safety monitoring, protective systems and structures, transportation or other. This is achieved through assessment, design, and fabrication of items such as wheelchairs and seating systems, safety monitoring, protective structures, beds, helmets, splints, utensils, vocational and recreational components, and resident transit systems to list a few. This position reports directly to the Adaptive Equipment Director.
This applicant should demonstrate a high level of skill and training and must be able to observe and analyze systems for structure, safety and function, and should be able to inspect equipment for problems and propose feasible solutions. This position communicates directly and frequently with all professional staff in assessing equipment or assistive technology needs. This applicant must also be able to provide effective guidance to other workers that are assisting his/her task or project. Effective oral and written communication skill is essential to this job, as the employee must clearly communicate with both superiors and peers to successfully complete projects.
This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
