Job summary

TrulyHired in Onslow County Schools seeks an Exceptional Children Teacher-Adaptive Curriculum to deliver specialized instruction for students with significant disabilities under IEPs, using functional academics, communication, and transition planning. Collaborates with nurses, therapists, families and peers to create inclusive classrooms.

Responsibilities include developing IEPs, coordinating with staff, applying de-escalation techniques, maintaining records, and ensuring safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Holds or is eligible to hold a North Carolina Exceptional Children teaching license appropriate for assignment.
• Maintains all licensure requirements established by NCDPI.
• Successfully completes all district-required training, including behavioral intervention, crisis response, student safety and related duties.

Responsibilities

• Provides specially designed instruction aligned with each student's IEP.
• Develops, implements, and monitors IEPs and serves as case manager for assigned students.
• Delivers instruction aligned to NC Extended Content Standards.
• Plans functional academics, communication, social and daily living skills, and transition readiness.
• Collaborates with related service providers to implement therapeutic recommendations.
• Implements communication systems, assistive technology, and adaptive materials.
• Supervises instructional assistants and maintains accurate student records.
• Communicates progress with parents and guardians; implements Behavioral Intervention Plans.
• Coordinates with nurses and medical personnel regarding health plans; participates in safety training.
• Maintains certifications and participates in school improvement initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
