Job summary

WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL FOR BLIND CHILDREN is seeking a full-time aquatic education specialist to develop and implement an adapted aquatics program for students with visual impairments and multiple disabilities. The role focuses on safety, individual program design, and collaboration with instructional staff to support student progress.

The ideal candidate will hold PA Health & Physical Education certification at the elementary/secondary level, possess an MS in Adapted Physical Activity and

Qualifications

  • PA Instructional Level II Health & Physical Education PreK-12 required.
  • MS in Adapted Physical Activity with proper certifications.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification required or preferred.

Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the department and program teams to continually improve the program for each student.
  • To implement adapted aquatics program and conduct adapted aquatic program for students with visual and multiple disabilities.
  • To assess individual and group needs in the pool and design instruction to meet student needs in collaboration with support personnel.
  • To develop and implement individual education programs (IEP) designed to meet the needs of each student.
  • To provide a safe and well organized pool environment.
  • To measure students' skill attainment and report to parents and education supervisors.
  • To use specialized and adapted materials/equipment and submit appropriate paperwork recommending purchases.
  • To inform and direct instructional aides accordingly.
  • To attend and participate in team meetings, staff meetings and professional in-service and training sessions.
  • To perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Executive Director, or Designee.
