Job summary

UnityPoint Health – Des Moines is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Inpatient Dialysis team at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. This full-time role provides specialized renal therapy across hospital units, including critical care and transplant services, with a 7:00 am to 7:30 pm shift and a 36-hour workweek.

We offer a limited-time $20,000 RN sign-on bonus for eligible hires between April 1 and October 31, 2026, plus relocation assistance up to $10,000 for moves over 50 miles.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program.
• Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
• Minimum of 12 months acute RN experience.
• Newly licensed RNs or RNs with less than 12 months of acute RN experience are encouraged to participate in the RN Residency program.

Responsibilities

• Assumes primary responsibility for the plan of care for a patient or group of patients, per unit standards and nursing care required for the specified patient population.
• Effectively delegates tasks and responsibilities to other health care team members and assumes responsibility for follow-up and collaboration.
• Performs admission assessment process per department standards: patient history, physical, and psycho-social assessment; uses data to formulate nursing diagnoses and goals.
• Develops a mutually established plan of care with patient and family; reviews priorities each shift.
• Implements the plan of care according to current standards of nursing practice and hospital procedures.
• Maintains a safe environment by integrating multidisciplinary approaches and promoting comfort.
• Partners with the healthcare team to achieve patient outcomes and goals of care.
• Administers medications and nursing treatments within scope of practice.

UnityPoint Health – Des Moines is offering a $20,000 sign‑on bonus for full‑time eligible RNs (Including Residents) hired or offered into acute inpatient roles between April 1 and October 31, 2026, paid in milestone‑based installments.

Relocation Assistance: Up to $10,000 for full‑time offers when relocating more than 50 miles.

Call: Must report within 30 minutes when called in.

The Inpatient Dialysis team at Iowa Methodist Medical Center provides specialized renal replacement therapy to patients across the hospital, including critical care, medical‑surgical, cardiac, and transplant units. Our department plays a vital role in supporting patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and complex comorbidities who require hemodialysis during hospitalization.

The department partners closely with nephrologists, intensivists, transplant services, and hospitalists to ensure patients receive seamless, high‑quality renal support throughout their inpatient stay.

Utilizes physical assessment data, diagnostic data (lab, radiology, diagnostic testing), pharmacological information and patient/family perceptions in formulating nursing diagnosis related to focus problem areas and identifying goals of care.
• Assumes responsibility for developing a plan of care that is mutually established with the patient and family. Each patient is treated as an individual, with their identified goals and expectations reviewed each shift to verify priorities.
• Implements the plan of care according to current standards of nursing practice, evidence‑based practice, and hospital protocol/procedures.
• Integrates multidisciplinary approach to maintain comfort, support human functions and responses, and maintain an environment conductive to safety and well‑being. Implements measures to promote a safe environment.
• Partners with healthcare team to achieve the patient care outcomes and goals of care.
• Administers medications and nursing treatments within scope of practice.
