Job summary

Piedmont Newton and Piedmont Walton are seeking a Surgicalist to provide 24-hour emergency department surgical response and take part in inpatient surgical rounds and consultations. The role operates primarily in the inpatient setting and collaborates with ambulatory general surgeons to keep hospital-based acute care distinct from elective OR work.

The ideal candidate has an MD or DO with a general surgery residency, board eligibility/certification, Georgia licensure, and a strong team

Qualifications

• Education and training: MD or DO with completion of an accredited general surgery residency.
• Certification: Board certification, or board eligibility with a defined path to certification, in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Fellowship training in acute care surgery is valued but not required.
• Licensure: Active, unrestricted Georgia medical license (or eligibility), DEA registration, and eligibility for medical staff privileges at Piedmont Newton Hospital.
• Clinical competence: Demonstrated competence across the breadth of emergency and inpatient general surgery, including acute abdominal and soft-tissue conditions.
• Team orientation: Commitment to protocol-driven, team-based care, prompt emergency response, and collaborative work with emergency medicine, hospital medicine, critical care, and advanced practice providers.

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency department surgical response and oversight of inpatient surgical rounds and inpatient surgical consultation.
• Work primarily in the inpatient setting and coordinate with ambulatory general surgeons to separate hospital-based acute care from elective clinic/OR work.
• Collaborate with emergency medicine, hospital medicine, critical care, and advanced practice providers to ensure timely, protocol-driven care.
